The Beckerman Recreation Center, located on the University of New Haven campus, is a 56,500-square-foot facility that provides a fitness respite for the school’s 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The $15.5-million recreation facility has quickly developed a reputation across the university as the “crown jewel” of the West Haven, CT, campus.
During planning for the Beckerman Recreation Center, architects and University of New Haven officials wanted to develop a facility that offers a multitude of fitness options for students, one that could also stand up to the heavy traffic of the student body. For the fitness space that houses electrical exercise equipment, resistance machines and free weights, the university turned to norament® strada because of its propensity to stand up to heavy foot traffic. The flooring also withstands the threat of indentations and gouges posed by free weights and offers the low-maintenance features essential to a facility that is open day and night, seven days a week. The busy fitness center is also experiencing excellent slip resistance, which provides students with the sure-footedness to train confidently, and acoustics that help absorb sound, allowing students to work out in peace.
